UNASUR’s Electoral Mission deployed 47 delegates in the provinces of Azuay, Chimborazo, El Oro, Esmeraldas, Guayas, Imbabura, Loja, Los Rios, Manabi, Morona Santiago, Pichincha, Tungurahua and Santo Domingo de las Tsachilas, who witnessed the setting up of vote reception boards and the opening of the electoral acts planned for this voting process.
The setting up of vote reception boards experienced delays, mainly, due to late arrival of their members, to which was added, in certain cases, difficulties arising with the assembly of the Screen-Ballot Box. At around 7:30 a.m., the Mission verified that the elections transpired with absolute normalcy.
Regarding the participation of the vote reception board members, the vast majority of which were university students, for both principal and alternate members, UNASUR’s Electoral Mission delegates verified, in the centers visited, that boards were comprised mainly by principal members. However, over a third of the Boards visited when setting up were conformed, with the alternate members present.
The delays observed during the opening of the vote reception boards did not generate any negative incidents, the orderly beginning of Election’ day, allowed an adequate voter flow at the polling centers during the early hours of the election.
At the time the Vote Reception Boards were being set up, an estimated 80% of the political organization delegates participated. A fact that contributes to guarantee polling day transparency and a strict defense of each vote cast at the aforementioned reception boards.
The Electoral Mission’s Special Representative, Jose Mujica is touring different voting centers in the city of Guayaquil, while the General Coordinator, Alexander Vega is accompanying the polling day from Quito. Mission members highlighted the calm and free movement of citizens during the process.
